Transportation accounts for 45% of logistics costs in Colombia, according to the Cibest Group, and has become the main bottleneck to competitiveness.

The Colombian-American Chamber of Commerce, AmCham Colombia, warned that the recent executive order by US President Donald Trump opens a strategic window for Colombia.

Colombian exports showed positive performance in September 2025. According to information from DANE, the country's external sales totaled US$4,621.3 million, representing an increase of 11.1% compared to the same month in 2024.

Regarding imports, that is, the products Colombia buys from around the world, its main trading partner is no longer the United States but China, Analdex highlighted.

The indirect effects are noticeable: sales of cars and components abroad fell by 7.8% in the first seven months of the year, with a particular impact on Palencia and Zaragoza.

Colombia increased its imports from China by 50% in tons during the first half of 2025, allocating US$1.398 billion, a 24.9% increase.

During the month, foreign purchases totaled US$6.484 billion, driven primarily by the increase in manufacturing.

The increase in foreign purchases isn't bad. Even more so if it's for the manufacturing industry. The problem is that we're selling less and less to other countries, and this imbalance can be complicated.

Nicolás Mejía, the organization's vice president of Exports, highlighted how the Belt and Road Initiative can help diversify markets.
